Prescriptions
Ordering repeat prescriptions
We are a dispensing practice and proud to be a member of the Dispensing Doctor’s Association, which solely and uniquely exists to help rural practices deliver excellence in dispensing services.
South Wight Medical Practice Dispensary Information Poster
We can provide acute medications (like antibiotics) and repeat prescriptions directly from our surgery, eliminating the need for a visit to the pharmacy. This service is available to eligible dispensing patients who live more than a mile from their nearest pharmacy.
If you want to check your eligibility for receiving prescriptions from our surgery instead of another pharmacy, please speak to a member of our Dispensary Team.
The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:
- using the NHS App (through the NHS website or via NHS App on your mobile device) – This is the quickest method
- using your SystmOne patient online services
- return your completed repeat request slip to one of the dispensaries
These accounts display your repeat medications and dosages, allowing you to select the ones you need.
Collection of Prescriptions
Please ensure you make requests for prescriptions a few days before your medication runs out. Please note that all prescriptions require 4 working days before collection.
Any requests for additional items, which are not on repeat, have to be authorised by a Doctor
To reduce the risk of errors, prescriptions cannot be requested over the phone or via email
What to do with your old / out of date medication

Pharmacy services
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
